Dear Editor,
The Beauty Tragedy
I am writing to show my concern about the problem of beauty treatment in Hong Kong. Recently, I learnt about a bad news of beauty tragedy in a local daily, which involves a cosmetic therapy of blood transfusions at the DR beauty chain’s Causeway Bay. The beauty treatment of DK-CIK which results in four women suffering septic shock and they are in hospital that left one of them dead and three are critically ill.
The beauty treatment of blood transfusions arouses
public concern. Although Dr Stephen Chow Heung-wing, founder of DR beauty
center said his staff had only described the blood transfusion as a “health
therapy”, the Secretary for Food and Health Ko Wing-man insisted the blood
transfusion involved in the treatment was a medical procedure. Besides, lawyers
said Chow could still face charges such as operating illegal medical practices
or aiding and abetting.
The issue of unscrupulous business of beauty salons
and beauty centers are known but ignored. What should we do to avoid those
beauty tragedies happening once again? In my opinion, the government should
increase the awareness of the public on what differentiates the beauty
treatment from medical treatment, to educate customers against doing some risky
beauty treatments, which are uncommon. Moreover, it should pay attention to
shops, which provide a variety of beauty treatments and to have the policy of
beauty business licence to protect customers.
Secondly, customers should assess the risks
involved before making the decisions to undergo any beauty treatment.
Furthermore, they should have the right attitude toward getting old. It is
futile to look young while one ages. On the other hand, people should regular
do exercise such as playing ball games, hiking and swimming and so on. They
should drink plenty of water, to eat more fresh vegetables and fruit every day. They should not sleep too late. I think that people will look younger and
fitter if they have a health care habit in their life. It is a safe and work
way to against getting old. People no need to spend too much money on beauty
treatments.
Yours faithfully,
Kar
