This comes two weeks after the Legislative Council’s House Committee invited him to appear.
Speaking at yesterday’s council meeting, the Chief Secretary, Carrie Lam, said Leung would address topics that were of concern to lawmakers and the public.
No date has been set, but the chairman of the House Committee, Andrew Leung,
said the council’s secretariat (秘書處) would arrange to hold the
session (開會) as
early as next week.
He said it was up to the Chief Executive to decide whether it should take place
before lawmakers debate a vote of no-confidence (不信任投票) in him next Wednesday. The
honorary chairman of the Liberal Party(自由黨),
James Tien, said he hoped the chief executive would address the Legislative
Council before the no-confidence motion(不信任動議) was moved. He said his
party’s support or opposition for the motion would be swayed(搖擺不定) by the timing of the Chief Executive’s appearance.
