Legco wants government to issue free TV licences

( Metro Daily  30 Nov 2012) The Legislative Council has passed a non-binding motion(冇約束力動議) calling on( 請求) the government to issue new free-to-air television licences before next March.
Lawmakers were critical (批評的) of the existing  two
terrestrial stations - TVB and ATV.
They say there had been a significant (顯著的) drop in the quality of programmes broadcast (廣播) by the two stations.
The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Greg So, said the government had been scrutinising (細閱) the three licence applications.
He denied (否認)that it had been delaying a decision on issuing them. It’s argued that more TV stations would mean stronger competition.
This, in turn, will benefit Hong Kong people who are3 avid (渴望的)TV viewers.
Metro and agencies.
