More Resources Should be put on Education

17/12/2012

(Kar) As Hong Kong is a famous international commercial city, English language is the major media of documents and communication since there are lots of businessmen from different countries. However, some employers say that some of the interviewers of this year’s graduates are weak in both writing and speaking in English. Furthermore, the result in both Chinese and English subjects is downhill, which is worrying. Therefore, the government should do things on education to solve the problems.

Having a perfect and quality education scheme is very important. If the Education Bureau (EDB) provides assistance to schools and support teachers, it can benefit students. Also, if the EDB runs more education funds to encourage schools to improve their teaching materials and facilities, students may have a more satisfying condition for studying.

Secondly, the government should work together with the other non-profit-making organizations to offer some tutoring programs which are free or half-paid for the underprivileged such as the newcomers, the children of single parents and the low income families, and so on. These services can help them to solve their problems on studying. If the poor students get good results, they may get good and satisfying jobs. They may eve climb up the social ladder and steer away from poverty.

Hong Kong was ahead of the Four Asian Tigers but it is behind the others in the recent years. Thus the government should put more resources on education. It may make our future generations have the ability and power of a variety of knowledge skills on technology, commerce and trading to raise HK’s competitiveness above other countries.
